The Freedom of Marriage and Association and Prohibition of Crimes in the Name of ‘Honour’ Bill

In 2022, several autonomous organizations and grassroots activists came together to respond to the growing number of crimes committed in the name of ‘honour’ in India. The discussions and consultations emphasized the need for a legislative intervention, among other social campaigns, to curb these crimes. Hence, ‘The Freedom of Marriage and Association and Prohibition of Crimes in the Name of ‘Honour’ Bill, 2022,’ was drafted by the Centre for Law and Policy Research (CLPR).

The Bill has since undergone several redrafts incorporating the feedback received in the state and national consultations to ensure it is participatory and responds to the grassroots reality.

The latest Bill and its previous iterations can be found on the CLPR website here.
