Lockdown Caste Atrocities – Case 14

Dinkar (survivor)  and his mother live in property owned by his father in an area surrounded by families from upper castes. These uppercaste families have been trying to force Dinkar’s family out of that area. One of their neighbours, the accused, Gajanan Madekar tried to encroach Dinkar’s property.  Upon which, Dinkar went to Sarpanch and president of Tanta mukti samiti and requested him to intervene in the matter. But he kept him waiting outside his house and did not attend him.

He came back home and witnessed that Gajanan (accused) was constructing a shed which was coming inside the boundaries of the survivor’s land. Survivor’s mother requested the accused to move the shed and not to encroach. Accused got angry and started abusing her, joined by his family. Dinakr came in support of his mother and tried to tell the accused not to abuse his mother. The accused started abusing Dinkar and beat him up which gave him a severe head injury. The accused was then stopped by those gathered around, but he was still abusing Dinkar and threatened to kill him.

Though the FIR was registered the accused was never arrested. He became more confident and adamant. He even completed the construction of the disputed shed (encroaching land of the survivor). No police protection was given to the survivor though the survivor clearly applied for the same.

Police Inspector of Hasnabad Police station once said that the house does not belong to the father of the survivor and so he should vacate it or keep silent. The survivor has applied for documents from the local Panchayat office in writing but they are not providing him the land records. Victim has not received any compensation from the government.
